 Russia's state-owned company Gazprom said Nord Stream 1, one of the pipelines that supplies natural gas from Russia to Europe, will be closed for three days at the end of this month for "routine maintenance".

In a statement posted online on Friday, Gazprom said Nord Stream-1's sole turbine will be shut down from August 31 to September 2 for maintenance. News Al Jazeera and Taser.

 This pipeline carries supplies from Russia to Russia via the Baltic Sea. The unscheduled maintenance could further increase tensions between Moscow and Brussels.The company said in a statement that according to the current contract, the maintenance activities will be done jointly with the experts of Siemens.

The flow of gas supplies through Nord Stream-1 is controversial. The pipeline was closed for maintenance a month ago. Gaszprom is supplying only one-fifth of its capacity through pipelines after maintenance.

However, Gazprom says that 33 million cubic meters of gas per day will be supplied through the Nord Stream-1 pipeline once the work is completed. Which is one fifth of normal.

Russia has been supplying only 20 percent of its capacity to Europe through Nord Stream-1 since July 27. Because two turbines of this pipeline are closed. One was sent to Canada for maintenance. It is stuck there due to ban. They agreed to return the turbines in response to Berlin's continued requests. And on July 25, Gazprom announced the shutdown of another turbine.
